Guess where I’ll be in an hour?

I haven’t even walked through the doors yet, but I know this is going to be one of the most amazing nights of my concert-going, music-loving life. I get all jittery just thinking about it. I can’t believe PRINCE and I are going to be sharing the same air space!!! (Yes, I know I sound like I’m 11 years old, and no, I don’t care.) Every time I’ve tried to go to a Prince concert (and I have tried many, many times for many years), something goes wrong and I wind up not being able to make it happen. Tonight we’re ON.

Welcome 2 America, here I come.

This is really happening!!!

Have you ever watched An Evening With Kevin Smith? He has the BEST Prince story.

Have fun! And please sing along to Raspberry Beret for me.

    • Anna @ D16 February 8, 2011 at 12:48 pm

I’ve started to watch that clip a few times, but I never make it all the way through because I find Kevin Smith insufferably irritating.

  • Reply cuppy February 7, 2011 at 7:02 pm

I’ve been fortunate enough to see Prince a few times & each time he’s been flawless & amazing! He is so fascinating & talented that it’s mind-blowing.

    Have FUN !!!!

I’m so envious of you right now! Prince is my favorite tiny, mustachioed man! I hope he’s fabulous for you.

    • Anna @ D16 February 8, 2011 at 12:49 pm

The afterparty was $200!!! Yikes. The ticket was enough of a financial stretch to begin with!

  • Reply Cas February 7, 2011 at 7:52 pm

Prince was my first concert ever! I even remember what jeans I wore. Leopard printed denim. Yipes! Sheila E opened with her crazy percussionist self. Enjoy!

Get OUT! I’m so jealous. I’ve gone every time he’s been on tour (minus maybe 2) since LoveSexy and you are in for a fab night. Make sure and post about it, I’ll be living vicariously through you!

I hardly ever make it to concerts, but I bet Prince puts on a good show!

  • Reply Monica February 8, 2011 at 2:43 am

No frickin way! Cool. I just saw the Purple Rain video with my husband on VH1 Classic ( I am soooo old) yesterday and we talked about what he may be up to. Little did I know. Hope you had a blast and DO tell.

    • Anna @ D16 February 8, 2011 at 12:50 pm

Oh, he’s still incredibly prolific. He’s never stopped putting stuff out!

  • Reply ib February 8, 2011 at 3:39 am

    Lucky You! 🙂

I will probably never see him live, because all his concerts in Finland get cancelled. Maybe next time 🙁

    Have fun!

  • Reply Vanessa February 8, 2011 at 5:47 am

Dying of jealousy over here. DYING.

  • Reply Rita February 8, 2011 at 6:45 am

I’ven seen him last summer, here in Portugal (were I’m from), it was the best concert EVER, and I’m not a big fan, imagine if I was. He’s trully gifted. Goog gig!

  • Reply Ceci February 8, 2011 at 8:43 am

oh my GOD! I hope you had a (purple) great time!!! LOVE Prince!

  • Reply Grumble Girl February 8, 2011 at 8:58 am

    ohmylord JEALOUS!!!

One day when we’re tete-a-tete, I will tell you a story about my sister on her “best divorce ever” New Year’s trip to Vegas, a small venue, and the Man Himpelf taking my sister by the hand to dance on stage. Oh yes…

Hope you had a BLAST, sugar!!

    • Anna @ D16 February 8, 2011 at 10:04 am

      Are you joking? Oh my…

Last night Prince pulled Kim Kardashian up on stage to dance, but she just stood there looking like a confused puppy. Then he told her to get off the stage. 😀

    • kelly w February 8, 2011 at 4:40 pm

yeah, I was just going to post this link. How can you NOT DANCE when Prince pulls you onstage? Utter colossal fail.

    • Anna @ D16 February 8, 2011 at 4:53 pm

The Dlisted post about it is hilarious, though!! http://www.dlisted.com/node/40736

“One rule we’re taught shortly after birth is that when Prince commands you to dance, you dance.”

True words. I dance like Elaine Benes, but you had better believe I’d be working it if Prince had brought ME up there!

  • Reply Michelle February 8, 2011 at 10:16 am

One of the best concerts I ever saw was Prince. He is quite an amazing musician. I’m sure your enjoyed the show!

  • Reply Jennifer February 8, 2011 at 10:39 am

Soo jealous! A friend called with an extra ticket for last night’s show, but I couldn’t make it. Ack. Hope it was amazing — I actually saw the Purple Rain tour (10th row!) and it was one of the best concerts ever. And let me just point out that that makes me very old.

    • Anna @ D16 February 8, 2011 at 12:52 pm

I was only 10 during the Purple Rain tour, so as much as I really WANTED to go, it wasn’t going to happen!! I had a friend who went, and there was major jealousy. 🙂

  • Reply Kate February 8, 2011 at 10:56 am

Über awesome. I hope you can take photos!!

  • Reply Dusa February 8, 2011 at 12:21 pm

Holds up a candle/lighter/cell phone and sways back and forth.

Just a personal observation: Prince looks EXACTLY the same as he did in 1980. Damn good genes or plastic surgeon!

    Rock on Anna!

    • Anna @ D16 February 8, 2011 at 12:42 pm

I think it’s probably a combination of both Dusa, along with taking really, really good care of himself. Putting aside Prince’s gorgeous face and flawless skin, his body is still as lithe, compact, and muscular as it was when he was in his 20s…if not more so. His voice really still sounds just as good, too (impressive, considering how insane his range is and how much he does in the way of growling, screaming, etc.), even his falsetto.

  • Reply Suzanne February 8, 2011 at 1:36 pm

I am jealous! I got to see his Purple Rain tour in the mid 80s and it was awesome!

  • Reply Alicia February 8, 2011 at 3:08 pm

    Lucky!!

He’s wonderful. I’ve seen him in concert twice and he’s incredible.

  • Reply Cez February 8, 2011 at 3:30 pm

Lucky you..i will die for a ticket!!!!

  • Reply Janice February 8, 2011 at 4:23 pm

I saw him in London when I was 15 and it was amazing! We didn’t leave immediately after it ended and he came back onstage and had a jam session with the band in front of about 50 of us! FABULOUS!

  • Reply Louize February 8, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Awesomesauce – I saw him about 10 yes ago and would go again if he was playing somewhere near me. I haven’t heard any of his recent stuff, but I know I will love it, must download! Have a great night!

    • Anna @ D16 February 9, 2011 at 8:31 am

Prince has completely rejected the internet (including iTunes) and he’s super-serious about preventing illegal downloads, so you’ll have much better luck buying the actual (physical) albums. 🙂

  • Reply kelly w February 8, 2011 at 5:03 pm

Re: Dlisted post– oh, man, that’s good. 🙂

  • Reply Livi February 8, 2011 at 6:25 pm

Fab – have fun. I took my son to see Prince when he was about 6 – we had a great night (tickets were only $10/person day before the show too).

  • Reply Katie Jones February 8, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Wow! you will not be the same after tonight! Prince puts on an amazing show!
This Minnesota nursing student is very happy4U.
I believe Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are opening? Don’t miss them.

    • Anna @ D16 February 8, 2011 at 6:49 pm

It was last night, and it was indeed awesome. 🙂

(Cee-Lo opened last night—Sharon Jones was last month, sadly!)

  • Reply kelly w February 8, 2011 at 9:52 pm

PS, trivia: the woman who designed Prince’s symbol is named Sotera Tschetter. I worked with her a few years back, at Smith & Hawken. She was totally low-key and modest about it. Amazing!

    • Anna @ D16 February 8, 2011 at 9:56 pm

If I’d ever done ANYTHING to serve Prince in any capacity, I’d be telling anyone who’d listen. Really loudly.

This probably does not bode well for me should I ever wish to work for him…

    • kelly w February 8, 2011 at 11:03 pm

That’s EXACTLY what I said to her when I found out! ‘I would start every introduction with, “Hi, I’m Sotera, and I designed Prince’s symbol.”‘

(She also came up with the name ‘Carmen Electra’, but that’s not as interesting to me. ;-> )

  • Reply Marie February 8, 2011 at 10:42 pm

I am jealous. I was 15 when I fell in love with Prince on the cover of Interview magazine. I am not over it yet LOL!

  • Reply victoria February 9, 2011 at 12:14 am

oh dude, i missed this. awesome! and kevin smith and i are not related (he bugs me too). 😉

    • Anna @ D16 February 9, 2011 at 6:54 am

But you ARE related to Robert Smith, right??? 😀

  • Reply lisa February 9, 2011 at 1:14 am

  • Reply Joni February 14, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Offically jealous all the way from NZ…would give my first born to see Prince in concert (well maybe not my first born, but lets say my treasured Otto Larsen dining suite).

They say if you think about something you will it to happen, I am now on Prince mind-meld duty….
