Left to right, top to bottom:
I spent a lot of time cleaning, unpacking, and arranging. I’m pretty impressed by how much I managed to cross off the to-do list! By midday Sunday I was able to sit down and enjoy an iced coffee and feel a bit more at home. (The book under my coffee is Lena Corwin’s beautifully illustrated book of city maps. I can’t stop looking at it!)
On Sunday afternoon Shilo and Jenna came over for hot coffee on the roof. It was a bit chilly out, but still so nice to enjoy the view! I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it. Shilo brought some vegan blueberry crumb bars that were super-delicious. Perfect.
I’ve always had custom aluminum legs on my KARLSTAD sofa instead of the wood block ones they come with, but I’ve hung onto the wood ones since I’ve had a project like this in mind for a while now. I didn’t wind up with neon pink work table legs, but I did decide to give my sofa legs a set of neon pink socks! I’ll take better photos of the sofa and its new gams soon, but for now here’s a little sneak peek. I love how this turned out.
On Sunday evening, Daniel and Max came over to have beers with the dogs! Bruno and Fritz looooooove their Uncle Daniel. It’s so cute to see them jumping up and down with excitement whenever he’s around. Bruno immediately claimed his lap space and greatly enjoyed the extra attention—especially the belly-rubs.
Oh! And I decided to start wearing bracelets again. I used to wear stuff on my wrists all the time, but then I started getting annoyed by how they felt when I was using the computer. I like the feeling of security they give, though, so I’m giving them another shot. Aren’t those hot pink bangles great? They were a present from Jen. She, Tamera, Jenna, Shilo and I all have the same ones. I feel happy looking at them. I have nice friends.
p.s. Speaking of spray paint projects and friends, did you see Tamera’s amazing stool?! It’s so pretty.

I love how your sofa’s pink “socks” match the toes of the socks in the picture right below.
Totally intentional. 😉
Sounds like you had a glorious weekend – neon pink, hot and iced coffee, friends and a creating a sense of order… who could ask for more?
I saw the last image when you tweeted the instagram and I’m slightly obsessed with it. The paint splashes got me thinking… is someone digging up the road or had you started a trend for urban neon spray painting in DUMBO. But then I saw the textures and the lines and I can’t stop looking. It reminds me of a shot of a car park in Fargo – albeit with much more color and texture. (I’ll stop there because I suspect my obsession is more than a little odd.)
I am so glad people share photos on instagram. I love using it but it it also just such a fantastic way to see beautiful images others take of their daily lives. Thanks for sharing!
Nooooo, I totally understand your obsession! I love aerial shots for the same reason—especially over farmland or urban settings. It’s just so cool to see what we humans are doing down here with a bird’s perspective! (The hot pink tags in the streets are to indicate gas lines underground since there’s a street repair going on. Definitely not graffiti, fortunately.)
Ha! I love that you call them socks! They look really great. I recently sprayed a stool pink too, but it was pretty much the exact opposite, most of it was left birch with pink “socks” on the legs. Thinking of giving my wooden broom handle a bit of an makeover as well, since I still have paint left.
I have a hard time with bracelets/watches, but it’s more because I can never get used to them just being on my wrists. I feel like I notice them all the time, never get used to them being present the way other people seem to. Bummer because I’ve ran across several cute options lately.
Sounds like you had a great weekend! Hopefully it’s helping you to feel more at home in the new place.
Pink broom handle! Yes! I love it, please do that.
ooh! love the neon pink socks. looking forward to seeing more of the new place.
and that last shot is awesome. i heart dumbo.
i love the last shot, the brickwork is beautiful.
I love those sofa legs!
I love your rug! Where is it from?
Thanks! It’s from IKEA, but it’s been 5 or 6 years since they sold it.
I was in Ikea on friday looking at the KARLSTAD sofa and thinking the legs would look so great painted. Definitely need to buy the sofa for our 2nd lounge, they seem comfy and look pretty well made?
I ended up buying the white SIGURD bench, might give it some red socks for my kitchen.
Can’t get over how sweet Bruno and Fritz are. Bruno reminds me so much of my pup 🙂
We’ve had the KARLSTAD sofa at our house for a little more than three years, and it’s been really great. We bought it as a “temporary” solution while we waited for Fritz to stop chewing on everything in sight (he destroyed our previous sofa), but it’s turned out to be very good quality! It’s very comfy, too, yes. We liked it enough that we bought one in loveseat size for the apartment a couple of years ago, which is what you see here.
The legs are genius. When you were tweeting about it I kept imagining your ENTIRE couch out on the sidewalk / roof / top secret location being spray painted.
Now THAT would have been entertaining.
I love that geometric carpet we see on so many of your pictures! After seeing it on your blog years ago I went to buy it at IKEA and was so lucky to be able to snatch the last one hidden in a pile of much less stylish carpets (and it was 50% off!). I’m in an apartment with carpet all over right now and so sad I can’t use it… happy to see a bit of it here at least 😉
I haven’t used this rug in a while, and I’m so happy to see it out again! I really hope the dogs respect it. 😉
Looks like a great weekend. I’d like one of those blueberry crumbles please!
Your new apartment looks like it’s shaping up really nicely. I love the aqua washi tape detail on the actual post. With plus signs fitting your blog design and everything. You are a super clever lady, Anna!
I bought a low wooden stool at a vintage shop years ago that has a glossy red finish, but then little three inch bright white “socks” on the bottom. I LOVE it. I don’t know why or when the previous owner did it, but when I saw it I had to have it!
I sure am diggin’ those sofa legs – It’s making me look around the room wondering what I can do that to. 🙂
Love those doggies too!

So simple and easy those couch legs are! Thank you!
that’s not a rug w toy cars on it ?
Haha, no, it’s an overhead view of a street lined with Belgian block!
Those pink socks are just right! I recently sprayed a toy t-rex hot pink; he’s the star of my studio: http://www.yellowbrickhome.com/2012/03/13/oh-t-rexy/.
I love how Bruno “blends in”…dog camouflage?
So very great..
I have been a huge fan of your blog for a while now, I have never commented but just wanted to tell you how great and inspirational your site is.
I am from small little PEI, which is a tiny little island on the east coast of Canada. So I am always extremely jealous of the great selection of Ikea items in your house and apartment. I only get to visit Ikea once a year when I visit my sister in Edmonton, Canada, which is on the complete opposite side of the country. So although PEI is absolutely beautiful It is sadly way to tiny for an Ikea to even think about opening one close to me (the closest one is about 13 hours away in Maine).
Enough with my ranting… Great neon pink couch legs, what color pink did you use? You inspired me to paint a strip on the bottom of this great striped tree trunk I am currently using as a stool beside an eames rocker.
Keep being great, thanks 🙂
Hi Kate, thank you so much for the nice words. 🙂
The spray paint is fluorescent pink.
Hey i am replying on here to ask you to pls delete this comment as it pops up when I google my name. Thank you!
Kate, you had “signed” your comment at the bottom with your full name — that’s why it was being picked up. I deleted your name. It might take a a while to be cleared from Google’s cache, though. Nothing I can do about that, sorry.
Hey Anna! I nominated you for the Kreativ Blogger Award because I think you are awesome. You should take a look here: http://jingersnaps.wordpress.com/2012/03/27/what-the-what-now-the-kreativ-blogger-award/
🙂 Thanks for being such an inspiration!
Thanks, Jinger!
Hi Anna,
I am a graphic designer also and I am a big fan of your work. I am a book-worm so naturally I am also drawn to book design.
I love, love, love Tamera’s pic – it looks like an amazing pattern.
Love your blog also – lists are my favorite they get my motivated to make lists and follow through for myself. 🙂
Thanks, Anna! 🙂
p.s. The photo on Tamera’s blog is of a stool, not a pattern…?
Pets, friends and beer, it guaranties fun times and not necessary in that order! I love the neon color painted legs and pavement bricks!
OH MY GOD THAT BOTTOM PHOTO.
Beautiful!
Love the bracelets, they are inspirational, and the last pic is hypnotic! I could imagine it blown up big.
Have a great Wednesday!
Those neon pink sofa socks are so cool! Did you have to sand the wood before spraypainting?
Nope! The wood was already smooth and finished, so no need for sanding.
I love the pink socks! How incredible!
I think I’m finally starting to see the light when it comes to hot pink… I never liked it growing up, but the older I get, the more tempted I am to try it; love, love, love those couch legs! That’s a really neat idea. & your dogs are adorable as usual.
That last photo is so interesting! It took me a while to realize it’s not a rug with toy cars on it, like Gardenbre above thought!
finally found your blog! gorgeous! keep on being such an inspiration!
thank you anna!
best wishes,
anna 🙂
I love the sofa socks and I’m thinking about painting my Karlstad’s legs, too, or I might get custom legs from prettypegs. You’ve probably heard about this company before but since it has been popping up on a lot of (German and European) blogs lately, I thought I’d leave a the link here anyway. (http://prettypegs.se)
Love the space! Where did you get the carpet from? I need it!
Love the hot pink legs on your sofa! That fluorescent paint is so great, I used it a while back to spray paint a candelabra and am currently looking for something else I can use it on. Tamera’s chair looks great too. Totally in love with bright colors right now…Great photo of the cobblestone streets, love that they still have them in Dumbo. Can’t wait for photos of the new apartment once you have settled in…
The hot pink sofa legs are awesome, as is the variation in the brick road in the last photo!
Painted legs are just tops. Our Karlstad loveseat and ottoman have hosta green legs.
Don’t know where the dog ends and the sheepskin begins… love it. Recently(ish) found your site, and have trawled the archives, watching you piece together your house, and read about life in NY (missing it, as have just left after 12 years there), and enjoying peeks into your life. Making me crave the Hudson Valley… thanks for giving me a fix!
I am absolutely in love with your blog. I can’t believe I had not gotten to it before. You’re amazing. Following you this minute! Here is a link to my blog if you’re curious and want to check it out.
May I ask how you did this collage?? I love the effect as if it was taped!
stay in touch and stay awesome.
Hi Francesca, I do all of my image editing in Photoshop.
p.s. Your name automatically links to your blog—no need to paste additional links into comments. 😉
Love your sofa’s new neon pink socks…such an awesome idea!!! So sad my sofa doesn’t have legs.
Courtney
The sofa socks are just darling!! (Love the look of your blog, the favicon is perfect!)
Have a great day!
beautiful weekend and beautiful images!

LOVE the idea of adding a special touch to an ordinary sofa. The color block pegs are so catchy too! Great post!
