Psychedelic Furs at Roseland Ballroom.

The Psychedelic Furs at Roseland Ballroom, NYC on Friday night. You can see the full set here. (Yes, the Happy Mondays were there too!)

A little Anna-side-project trivia: I’m a big Furs fan. I started Burned Down Days almost 10 years ago, when they reunited after a nearly decade-long break.

Holy take me back to HS!!!

If only I knew. I can’t even find a radio station that’s heard of this band. So jealous.

I love the Furs! I saw them in Philly back in…um….must have been 1987 or 1988. Now I must go find my old albums.

great photos, anna! i’m amazed at how crisp these are in low light. gorgeous!

Iris, yes, Islands opened. They sounded good, but they didn’t seem very happy to be there. I wish they hadn’t started their set by calling the audience “a bunch of fucking wallflowers “. :

Sometimes British bands get very annoyed that US audiences aren’t as uninhibited as British audiences. Brits have zero inhibitions once the live music starts.

I am a huge Happy Mondays fan, but after seeing (and hearing, ugh) some recent concert footage, I wasn’t interested in seeing this tour. Ah well.

Islands are from Canada, so I think that theory is out…

  • Reply Anna at D16 October 11, 2009 at 6:02 pm

(Unless you meant the Furs? But they’ve been based in the U.S. for more than 20 years now…)

I would still marry Richard Butler in 2.4 seconds.

    He is so incredibly beautiful.

Sounds like a fun show. Isn’t live music just the best ? 🙂

To the Countess of Nassau County —back in the day in Nassau County, WLIR used to play the Furs, but alas no more. Try Pandora.com, an internet radio station, where you can have only the music you want to hear played for you.

  • Reply AHJ October 12, 2009 at 12:05 pm

Oh really? Oops. Yes, that theory is out. Islands were just rude, I guess. Opening band angst!

  • Reply Hollene October 13, 2009 at 4:52 pm

I saw the show a few weeks ago at the House of Blues, Dallas! Shawn Ryder looked completely embarrassed to be on stage, but their new female singer sang like a star!

    The Furs were so good and totally transcendent — I closed my eyes and was 15 again! {Sigh.}

Anna, did they play Heaven? It was always my favourite. Whenever I hear it now, I close my eyes and sing as though I’m fourteen again, at a dance in the school gymnasium. The 80’s just felt…special.

Hollene, her name is Julie Gordon, and yes — she is FANTASTIC!

Pam, yes, they played Heaven. 🙂

Back in college I was at a Love Spit Love show at the Wetlands (remember that place?!) proclaiming my love for Richard Butler to my friend. Next thing I heard was “why, thank you!” Busted. But I was a very happy busted. 🙂

Great pics. I nearly died when Richard reached down and grabbed my hand. That moment was just perfect! So made my night.

The Islands were complaining that it was early and NO ONE was there saying it was like a high school dance and we were all a bunch of wallflowers. I didnt take it too personally. They’re a great live band, but I definitely prefer their earlier music.

And I have to agree, no one was there, and most people were barely paying attention to the band. At least my friends and I came out for them, as we’re all huge fans.

Love the photos! It was a great show. Would have loved to stay til the end.
