Friday! Stuff I Tweeted.

Okay, okay. I know it’s technically past midnight and therefore also technically Saturday, but it’s still Friday in…um, California, right? Sure. So here are my favorite tweets from this past week!

+ Vogue on Vogue on Vogue: This is what you get when you layer a years’ worth of Vogue covers (from 19 countries!) on top of each other.

+ This hilariously accurate flow chart shows you how to describe your used furniture on CraigsList.

+ IKEA gave all 12,400 of their U.S. employees mountain bikes for Christmas. Beats the hell out of a lame buffet and an open bar, doesn’t it?

+ I’m thinking about buying this insulated cat house for “our” stray, Sylvester. It’s cold out there.

+ I’m in love with these incredible modern quilts by Carson Converse Studio.

+ An abandoned men’s club in Alabama is now a home, and it’s really beautiful.

+ How great is this pine dowel Christmas tree that Martha and Tom made?!

+ You know what I want for Christmas? FRECKLES.

+ Barring the gift of freckles, I’ll take Tord Boontje’s entire “Witches Kitchen” set.

+ Okay, or a Box of Swedishness.

+ If you haven’t already watched Kanye West’s short film, Runaway, you should. Even if you think you’re not a fan. (Thanks to Kathleen for the reminder!)

    Love your tweets!

As a food loving vegetarian Swede I’m a bit curious if you made any progress on the vegan Janssons Frestelse? We make them every year and have a recipie where the anchovie is substituted with vegan pate, soy sause and dill. This recepie is so good it actually tastes more Jansson than regular Jansson! Yumminess.

Not yet, Ella! I’ll be doing a test-run for an office potluck this Tuesday, though. 🙂

    that tree……..is cool

    • Martha December 18, 2010 at 10:09 am

Thanks, Sue! It was great fun to make. And Anna, assuming you’ve used a drill a few more times than I have (I’ve only owned mine for 1 year) and already have most of the right tools on hand, I’m sure you DO have time to make one of your own.

I’m making a supply list right now, Martha!

Best of luck to you—let me know if you have any questions along the way.

I just want to know if the Ikea employees had to assemble their own bikes?

    • Anna @ D16 December 18, 2010 at 12:40 pm

      According to the article:
“As those who have bought a bookshelf at IKEA might expect, some assembly is required. Employees have to add the seat, pedals and one wheel to complete the process.”

wow, the kanye video is nuts. thanks for the recommendation. and love the vogue covers as well.

You want freckles? lol. I’ll give you some. Sometimes I like mine, and then other times I feel that they are too much. The runaway video was hard for me to completely grasp. But the part with just the runaway song I liked very much.

Yes, I am not really a K.West fan but Runaway made me one…its really amazing…truly stunning…that bird lady!? ah sigh.

  • Reply Tina December 18, 2010 at 7:16 pm

I really did enjoy Kanye’s Runaway. I actually also really like his new album. Even if he’s “an abomination to Obama’s nation.” That’s gotta hurt to write in your own song. Ouch.

You had me until Kanye… lol The CraigsList list was hilarious. And loved the tree. A little (ok, a lot) out of range for my crafting ability but so cool! And in the spirit of Christmas, I will gladly, willingly give you some freckles… 🙂

    • Anna @ D16 December 18, 2010 at 8:36 pm

You might be surprised by Kanye. Give it a shot — the film is pretty amazing.

Thought you might like this idea for a temporary cat shelter to see if Sylvester shows any interest before shelling out money for something more permanent. We made one of these from an Omaha Steak cooler someone sent us as a gift. Our feral has only showed mild interest in it. You might know someone who would give you a Styrofoam cooler if you don’t already have one.

I made something like that last year, and though it does work, it’s really an eyesore (it’s right under our front porch). Sylvester isn’t going anywhere, so I think it’s time to invest in something all of us can appreciate. 🙂

    • Tonia December 20, 2010 at 1:25 pm

Ours is in the backyard so no one sees it but us. I’d like something more pleasing, but I’ve only seen her use it a few times so I’m not sure I want to invest a lot of money. If you find something Sylvester likes, I’d be interested in hearing about it.

I like the idea of the outdoor cat house. I wanted to rig something like that up for a feral that graced our place for a week, but it left first anyway. The only thing about that amazon one is that it looks like the “reviews” are actually by the manufacturer. I would bet cat-loving money that they are. So, grain of salt, and whatnot. Still, love the idea!

    Love the Vogue cover too.

  • Reply mia December 20, 2010 at 4:51 pm

your cat shelter might be similar but we have one made out of 2 plastic rubbermaid
storage bins. take a large one-cut a hole entrance for the kitty. line with hay or straw-all around for insulation. place a smaller size tub inside with an entrance hole that lines up.voila. if you could find some black bins it would look pretty similar. that one is really nice though!

    • Anna @ D16 December 20, 2010 at 4:56 pm

That’s exactly what I have now, actually! 🙂

  • Reply korn December 24, 2010 at 6:24 pm

I made a shelter out of rigid insulation for the cats at the Beacon train station and then packed it with straw. It is ugly, but it blends in. And I needed it to not be too visible.
I did find a site called http://www.feralvilla.com/ , they make and sell feral shelters and part of the proceeds go to a feral cat org in Indiana.
They are not bad looking. Plus they really figured out how to keep the cold out.
Thanks for taking care of Sylvester.

      That’s great! Thanks!

And thank you for taking care of the Beacon kitties. I’ve seen the little shelter by the station in Fishkill, too. Did you have anything to do with that one?

    • korn December 26, 2010 at 7:06 pm

Hmmm. Station in fishkill no. Not responsible for that one…great that it exists ! Curious about it .

  • Reply sRa December 29, 2010 at 7:43 pm

i want freckles too 🙂 they’re so cute!

as a hip hop fan, i AM cool with kanye (i kinda loved it when he dissed taylor swift), but I thought Runaway was lacking…hit me as pretentious faux depth and the phoenix was just eyecandy – a bad actress….

but i did like two parts a LOT – the ballerinas with him on the piano, and the breakdown on the MPC….I’d FFWD thru the rest just to see those two parts again.
