Art + Design + I Want This

Schoolhouse Electric, Fall 2013.

Oh, I love this time of year! Schoolhouse Electric, one of my favorite companies going way back, just launched their new line for fall 2013, and, as usual, my wish list is long. I became a fan of Portland-based Schoolhouse back when they just sold lighting, but over the past couple of years they’ve been expanding their line to include furniture and housewares – it’s become an incredible collection of stuff!

These of my favorites from the new fall line…lots of warm tones; black, brass, cream and gold.

1. Apartment Pendant // also available with a 2.25″ fitter to accommodate a variety of glass or metal shades
2. Arrow Napkins // by Egg Press
3. Sammamish Bird Woodblock Print // by Jennifer Ament (framed or unframed)
4. Isaac Sconce — Short Arm // also available in black and persimmon, hardwired or plug-in
5. Wire-Framed Trash Bin // in misty green or marigold
6. Let It Go wall banner // by Ashley Ann Brown

I’m excited to see the “Let It Go” banner carried by Schoolhouse! I love Ashley’s work for Secret Holiday, and I have her “It’s OK” banner in my apartment — I may need to add this one to my collection as well (maybe hand it up at work, haha). I’m also envisioning those brass sconces against the black wall in our bedroom at the house…mmm-hmmm! Or against any black wall, for that matter.

1. Isaac Sconce — Long Arm // also available in natural brass and black, hardwired or plug-in
2. Miles Desk Lamp // also available as a floor lamp, which I neeeeeeed for the apartment!
3. Schoolhouse Slogan Pencil Pack // set of five pencils
4. Schoolhouse Log Carrier // in cotton canvas with leather handles
5. Glass Jar // in two sizes, with red SECO decal

There are, of course, a multitude of colors, metal finishes and cord configurations available for the new light fixtures, and plenty of other stuff in the fall 2013 collection — it’s all up on the fancy new Schoolhouse Electric site. (I’m heading there right now myself, because I really, really need to make a decision about lighting for the kitchen! And I want to ogle that Miles floor lamp some more. I love that Aalto-esque shape…)

It’s all SO good. I stopped by Schoolhouse when I was visiting Portland last week, and got a little peek at the Fall collection… too many good things. Love the items you’ve chosen!

I still haven’t been to their NYC showroom!

Arg. I just ordered a sconce from onefortythree. Now I’m tempted to cancel for the Isaac. Just when I thought I’d finally made a lighting decision.

    • Anna @ D16 September 16, 2013 at 3:24 pm

Hah! I know that feeling. I can’t imagine you being disappointed in either! I have a sconce from onefortythree in my kitchen, and it’s beautiful. Of course, everything I have from Schoolhouse is beautiful too, sooooo…

I’m not helping. I’ll shut up now. 😉

Yeah, I need all that lighting. ALL OF IT.

  • Reply Anna September 16, 2013 at 3:43 pm

I wonder how much rent they’d charge just for the sq. footage shown in the picture with the couch? That’s all I’d need, really… 😉

Oooh! I was just looking for a vintage floor lamp like that.

  • Reply maggie September 16, 2013 at 6:49 pm

Oh gosh, this is all so awesome. Onto my wishlist it goes…

You always recommend/spotlight the nicest things, Anna! I want to thank you but my bank account is making all sorts of frowny faces. I wonder why… I love your blog; thank you so much for all the writing and how-to’s.

P.S. I am sure you already know, but I think it’s awesome that the Ikea online assistant is called “Ask Anna”. It couldn’t be more perfect because I think of you when I think “Ikea” and “cross prints” 😉

okay, where is that great couch from?

I’ve always been impressed with their design and I just recently made my first purchase with Schoolhouse Electric. I’m still holding out for some new glass shades for the vintage ceiling lights in my hallways.

Such good stuff. The sconces especially! I have a brass & black vintage trashcan that is SO MUCH like the ones in that first photo. I put a potted plant in it, and it’s one of my favorite things.

      Is yours Richard Galef?

  • Reply Daniel @ Manhattan Nest September 17, 2013 at 12:44 am

It’s all SO GOOD. I feel like that trashcan wants to be a planter. MY PLANTER.

    • Anna @ D16 September 17, 2013 at 12:55 am

I thought it was a planter when I saw the photo! I kept searching for “planter” on the site and got upset when I couldn’t find it.

I have never heard of this site but I really like it so thank you for sharing bc I always love the items you pull.

Wow. I didn’t think I’d ever find another PDX shop I like as much as Canoe, but lookee here! Dangerous!

    (I still love Canoe…)

Want. That. Orange. Sconce. How ridiculous would it be to buy hardwire sconces on the off chance that they may fit into a decorating scheme in a future apartment! And, yet, I’m seriously considering it. Blergh.

    • Anna @ D16 September 18, 2013 at 10:09 am

I consider that kind of reddish-orange a neutral, personally. Go for it!

  • Reply Erika September 18, 2013 at 12:12 pm

I need(want) everything in this post, especially that “too good to just be a trash can” trashcan.

  • Reply Lee September 23, 2013 at 12:07 am

I went there this past weekend and wanted to spend ALL my monies there.

  • Reply Krista October 3, 2013 at 1:27 pm

Fall is the BEST! Loving the warm color TONES.

  • Reply Tracy June 14, 2014 at 10:15 am

where did the sofa come from in this picture?

    • Anna @ D16 June 14, 2014 at 7:17 pm

      It’s also from Schoolhouse Electric!
