Vanity + Wearables

Haircut.

My giant cowl-necked sweater is hiding the fact that my hair is now SHORT, but trust me, it is. I was inspired to go short/messy by my beautiful friend Leah (who, in turn, was inspired by Lily Allen’s recent spread in Nylon). My hair isn’t as thick as Leah’s or Lily’s, sadly, and my bangs were already too short to duplicate the style exactly, but the length and choppiness are exactly what I had in mind.

Last April I started getting my hair cut by Pattie at Soon Beauty Lab, but she’s since left the salon and moved to another state (ack!). I called Soon and asked them to recommend someone else who’s good with short cuts on straight hair, and they suggested that I see Tina. Well, let me tell you, Tina is AWESOME. She totally loves what she does, too, and she’s not ashamed to express that. I have a feeling Tina is going to be cutting my hair for a good, long time. I just have to make sure she never moves!

Oh so cute! As someone who also has short-ish hair, I have to say: cowl-neck and turtleneck sweaters will be your new best friend. They just look adorable with short haircuts.

Oh how I wish I could go short! My hair is naturally curly though so in humid weather I look like a sheep and in cold weather like something the cat dragged in, all static and clingy to my face. Ugh! My best friend is the ponytail, boring but oh what a good friend it is.

Cute! I think I will be stealing that idea myself…

love the ‘do! I’ve had tragic results when trying to copy other folks hairstyles, but yours is one I wish I could copy!

It looks great on you! Love it!

  • Reply Emily December 22, 2008 at 5:25 pm

Your hair looks great! I think Lily Allan looks much better with her new haircut too. It is tempting me to cut my hair too.

  • Reply Jo December 22, 2008 at 5:38 pm

Love the cut. It really brings out your eyes.

I freaking love it. Makes me want to grow mine out and have some bangs…proper ones. I’m partway there since I’m totally overdue.

It looks fabulous! I love the angled bangs. They really show off your pretty peepers 🙂

  • Reply Jessica December 22, 2008 at 6:41 pm

Oh, it looks great! I think it actually looks better on your a little shorter, especially the short bangs. You are totally making me want short hair again!

  • Reply Mary December 22, 2008 at 7:20 pm

    Beautiful! Love the new hair…

  • Reply Laura December 22, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Your haircut is darlin’ and totally complements your face! How do you style the bangs? I have a similar cut w/out the bangs, and I’m wondering how you make them look so good!

  • Reply DawnMarie December 22, 2008 at 8:36 pm

Wow! You look stunning. That new do is perfect for you. I have collected a few photos and thinking about going shorter. Everyone I mention it to seems to ask what my husband will think. Seems like a strange question to me. This is a hair do that looks great and any woman or her man would love.

The haircut is super cute – but so is your makeup! Would you mind sharing your blush and lipstick colors?

  • Reply Adam December 22, 2008 at 9:19 pm

Once again, I love it! It looks so good on you! Tina is obviously very talented.

  • Reply Maya December 22, 2008 at 10:30 pm

I love Tina!! She cuts my hair, too, and I’m way overdue for a visit. Thanks for the motivation!

Awww, thanks everyone! I’m still figuring out how to style this haircut, so it’s nice to know I don’t look like totally insane.

Laura: I’ve had bangs for my entire life (with the exception of my senior year in high school, when I apparently decided I needed to have a forehead), so I don’t really know how NOT to have them. I have a cowlick on the right side of my hairline that has become more pronounced as I get older, so it’s gotten more difficult to wear blunt-cut bangs (my preference). Angled bangs are a compromise. I dry them in the opposite direction, then push them over this way with a teensy dab of B&B Sumotech wax. If it’s windy or humid, I use a little lightweight hairspray. That’s pretty much it!

DawnMarie: That is a weird question, but I’d be lying if I said I don’t care what my husband thinks…and what he thinks is that I should get my hair cut however it makes me feel good about myself! 🙂

Erin: The blush is Nars Orgasm, and the lip gloss is MAC Lipgelee in Moistly.

    Maya: Yay! Go Tina! 🙂

    i LOVE your bangs!!!

The haircut really does look cute. It’s making me think I should just take the plunge and get bangs. And it is SO nice to find a hairstylist that you really like. I finally found one, and I might have to move if she does!

    I love it! Very fresh!!!

Love it. Welcome to the world of short…

  • Reply nicole December 23, 2008 at 1:45 pm

    it looks beautiful.

i’m growing my own hair out after having it short for over a year and seeing your happy post-cut face makes me crave a little visit to the salon just to get some layers to help things look a bit more intentional during the transitional months.

a very happy holiday to you and your family.x!

  • Reply Monica December 23, 2008 at 6:00 pm

Thanks for explaining how you do your bangs. I have a cowlick on the left style and have been trying to style it in direction – no good. They end up being stringy. I’ll try this tomorrow. Plus, my bangs are now Lily’s length – I just might like my haircut again.

    Thanks Anna – happy holidays!!!

Will be printing out your pic and asking for your bangs from my stylist… I’ll call it The Anna Cut.

    Cuteness!

  • Reply Jules December 23, 2008 at 10:00 pm

    You really are beautiful.

Thanks for the tip on drying the bangs from the opposite direction. I’m new to bangs (at 6 months, this is the longest period of time I’ve ever had them), so this tip is absolutely priceless to me.

  • Reply Franziska December 24, 2008 at 2:45 am

wow! It fits you very well!

  • Reply Kristine December 24, 2008 at 4:16 am

Well I can’t believe you’re 16 years out of high school (from your latest post). You have the skin of a high school senior now. Fabulous haircut too.

  • Reply Karen Olivia December 29, 2008 at 11:05 pm

I recently chopped my hair to be very short too (after 10 years of having very long hair)! Your hair looks great and you have beautiful skin 🙂

    Cheers,

    Karen O.

I’m sorry… it’s hard to notice your haircut because I am baffled by your PERFECT skin! *jealous* It looks absolutely flawless!

  • Reply Amanda January 2, 2009 at 12:47 pm

Totally adorable! I want to chop off my hair now too. I’m feeling those short bangs too. And ditto the comment above, your skin looks LUMINOUS!

  • Reply Bridget January 4, 2009 at 12:19 am

Your hair looks lovely! I just got over a foot cut off, and it’s taking some time to get used to 🙂

  • Reply kristin January 5, 2009 at 12:25 pm

I was so freaked out when they told me that Pattie left too! They suggested someone else for me who was not Tina but was equally great.

    Your cut looks lovely!

  • Reply Meghan April 21, 2009 at 9:34 pm

I’m so mad at Pattie! I’ve been going to Gabriel and he’s done a nice job, although I think if I knew where Pattie went, I might consider flying to her just for the conversation…
