APT: Downtown Brooklyn + I Want This

Tiny plus-sign sheets from Target!

In my last post, I mentioned having bought a queen-size mattress for the new apartment. Knowing that we were going to be making that upgrade, I bought new sheets a couple of months in advance. A number of people have emailed me about Target’s plus-sign bath rugs and towels, which led me to these great plus-sign sheets! (They’re a little tricky to find on the site since they’re not consistently depicted in the main product photo—just click the “plus print” icon under the color selector and you’ll see ’em. And if you don’t want a whole sheet set, they sell a set of two pillowcases separately. That product photo looks gray, but they’re definitely bright white.)

They’ve only been washed twice, but I’m really happy with the quality of them so far. Normally I would shy away from a cotton-poly blend, but I honestly wouldn’t have known they aren’t 100% cotton if I hadn’t seen the label. They’re very soft, almost like flannel. And the scale of the pattern is perfect. (I like them even more than this much more pricey variation from Normann Copenhagen, in fact.)

By the way, since a few people have asked, the black blanket with the white stitching is from IKEA’s 2009 PS line, designed by textile artist Kazuyo Nomura. Sadly (and predictably), the STICKA blanket is not still in production. Maybe I should start a blog entirely devoted to nice stuff that IKEA discontinued…

The “IKEA…Sadly Discontinued” blog sounds great!

Those are so cute! Target actually has pretty good sheets. I’m laying some right now!

Very cute! I’ve had great success with Target sheets as well. I have their organic cotton set, which is significantly cheaper than any organic sheets I’ve priced elsewhere. And they’re holding up nicely after about six months of use.

That’s good to know! I’ve honestly never really paid attention to the bedding at Target before. Are these the ones you have? The price is great…

I’ve got two sets of the organic sheets from Target. I’ve been alternating them for four years and they are wearing beautifully. No pilling, the stitching is strong and the elastic is still springy. They get washed in warm water with Method detergent, some Oxy powder and I use white vinegar in a Downy ball for a fabric softener. Occasionally they would get line dried, but mostly I tumble dry them on a medium heat setting.

Those are the ones I have.

I have these (going on 3 months) and love them. Yes, the blend is surprisingly soft and I love how the flat sheet + pillow cases are almost wrinkle-free out of the dryer; no wrinkle & crinkle on the case edges.

I have the plus sign shower curtain! Love it!

I have the bathmat and love it! Did not know there was a shower curtain too. Will have to check it out.

I’ve had these since July or so and have washed them 15+ times. They are still perfectly soft and smooth.

I second loving my Target sheets. They are soft and don’t pill. I also like that there is an extra couple of inches of fabric around the edges so it actually goes over and under the mattress. To be honest they are nicer than some department store sheets I spent that I spent over 150 (ugh) on.

Love the sheets! Thanks for sharing the link. Just went online and ordered them for in-store pick-up. Hope to get them later today.

Thank you Anna for the link to the sheets, I was at target yesterday and bought the plus print pillow cases. I too have a black and white bedroom and I like to mix fabric prints for contrast so it doesn’t look too stark or cold. I have never bought linens from target but for $9 this seems like a cant-miss deal.

I bought these sheets and did not know they were a blend! Had I known, I might not have bought them because I am a bit of a sheet snob. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the content! They are so fabulous and so beautiful out of the dryer! Love them and they have worn beautifully since I got them 3 months ago! What I love the most is that they sell the pillowcases separately because I have 6 down pillows on my bed and I love having all the pillowcases match. I know, a bit much, but my bed is divine!

Hey Anna Thank you so much for the link to the sheets. I bought new sheets last week.

I have the Threshold Performance sheets and they are wayyyy better than the West Elm ones I have. I love that they are made for taller mattresses, since I’m so tired of fitted sheets pulling off my mattress. I was going to get these but they seemed so thin to me in the store – anyone find this to be the case?

    • Anna @ D16 December 24, 2014 at 12:17 am

Amanda, are you wondering if the sheets in the post are thin? If that’s what you meant, then no, definitely not thin.

Does pet hair stick to them? I’ve almost purchased them a million times but my cat sleeps on the bed and I’ve had problems with bedding collecting his hair like a magnet! (GROSS! I know!)

    • Anna @ D16 December 26, 2014 at 9:15 am

I haven’t noticed anything usual about them in terms of pet hair, but I guess it depends how much your cat sheds? I don’t know…my dogs don’t shed much, and I don’t have a cat. Sorry I can’t be more helpful

I went ahead and bought them… I’m in love! They do gather lint / hair a little but not too much. Thank you for all your recommendations, first the clarisonic and now awesome sheets! I think I’ll have to get the facial oil soon 🙂

    • Anna @ D16 January 5, 2015 at 10:32 pm

Glad you’re digging them, Martha!! I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality—they’ve been washed at least 4 times now, and if anything, they’re feeling even nicer. 🙂

Can confirm that I love these sheets.

Also, a blog devoted to highly sought after but discontinued IKEA products? Are you aiming to break my heart?

  • Reply Laura June 12, 2015 at 12:56 pm

Okay, I know I’m super late on this, but I just recently discovered your blog and saw this post…I have the same sheets, except I had my sister make them into curtains! I absolutely love ’em.
